Kelvin Queliz begins his fourth season leading the communications, marketing and creative office in 2019-20. Hired in September 2017 following a three-year stint at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Queliz oversees all public relations, social media and digital for the New Orleans Privateers. In the spring of 2020, he was promoted to the executive staff and is the sport admin for golf.

In his tenure at UNO, the Privateers have revamped their social media channels and shifted to a digital first approach, growing its social media reach by over 50,000 followers.

While overseeing the daily operations of sports information, marketing and promotions for the Javelinas, he guided the Hogs to a focus on new media, partnering with BoxCast.com to provide streaming for all sports, while increasing regional and national exposure for all 15 sports. Under his leadership, the Javelinas saw a rebranding in graphics, videos, social media, releases, press conferences and website.

He served as the color commentator for football and broadcasted select basketball and baseball contests.

The New York City native spent the previous year as the assistant director of athletic communications at Florida Tech. There, he was the main sports information director for six sports.

Prior to working in the Panthers’ athletic communications office, Queliz was the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information at the City College of New York. At 22 years old, he was the youngest head SID at the time in the NCAA. He redesigned the CCNYAthletics.com website in January 2013 and headed a promotional campaign for United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year Thierry Diessongo.

Assisting in the sports information office at UD, he was named the Assistant Media Relations Director at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La. in October 2011.

Queliz was the main contact for baseball, volleyball and bowling and was the home statistician for men’s and women’s basketball.

He received his bachelors of science in sport management from the University of Delaware in 2011 and his masters in athletic administration from Coker College in 2016. Queliz also minored in legal studies and earned a business certificate.

He has been an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) for eight years and currently serves as a mentor on the mentorship committee, on the new media committee and is the vice chair on the young professionals committee. He previously served as the publications coordinator for Division I (FBS) football media guides and is a regional member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Queliz is a member of NACDA and MOAA.

He is married to the former Christina Jenkins, the 10 p.m. news producer for WWL-TV and resides in Metairie.
